His ‘Chimeras in the Matrix’ EP is the first release for Samo Records. The A side (“Omega Block”) is remixed by British producer Antoni Maiovvi, who co-runs the horror disco label Giallo Disco Records; the B side (“Chimeras in the Matrix”) remix comes from another British producer, Tronik Youth, who helms the prolific Nein Records.

Brooklyn based DJs and producers John Barera & Will Martin are known for their sculptural, storytelling House with a subtle Detroit Techno influence. Their debut album on Dolly,“Graceless” followed up on the success of their track “Reality”, which found its way into the hands of Berlin’s Steffi, and acted as a central gear in her Panorama 05 Mix. “Graceless” was well received and the two begun to perform from time to time at major clubs and festivals around North America and Europe. A string of EPs on labels like Argot and Supply followed, further cementing their reputation. Continue reading

Dinky is never one who to rest to her laurels. The Chilean-born, Berlin-based producer had never limited herself to one style – From her early releases on in the `90s Sonic Groove, Traum and Carpark to Sven Vath’s Cocoon imprint and her latest release ‘Casa’ on Crosstown Rebels, her records range from ambient, minimal house and techno to downcast new disco and electronic pop.

Dinky’s musical journey started as a child playing piano. When she moved to NYC in the mid-90s to join the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance, that Dinky’s music career began to take off, as she immersed herself in the city’s vital underground scene of the day. Continue reading

House, techno and breaks is how Octo Octa describes her genre of music but her productions are so much more than that. The Brooklyn producer’s finely-tuned marriage of exquisite compositional flare, meticulously-sculpted sonics, and primal dance-floor functionality earned her a Red Bull Music Academy residency in Manhattan as well as covet gigs at Berlin’s Panorama Bar, Frankfurt’s Live At Robert Johnson, and Barcelona’s Sonar Festival.

Over the years her releases on Running Back, Argot and 100% Silk have been in the record bags of many DJs around the world. This week she returns to Good Room to push her unique sonic perspective and shimmering club-ready earworms through our soundsystem. When it comes to the Idjut Boys anything goes. Behind the decks and in the studio for more than 20 years, Dan Tyler & Conrad McConnell have been playing disco, electro, R&B, soul, house, techno, hip hop, pop & rock. Basically anything works if it fits in the mix. The result is a truly eclectic and infectious sound that has made them a favorite among DJs and disco lovers alike.

They met during a particularly exciting time in music, in England in the late-80s. They bonded over a shared love of the disco not disco of Harvey and Francois K. Since then they’ve run three record labels and produce their infectious dub-heavy disco sampling house for many more. They formed their first label, U-Star, in ’94 on the back of their successful club nights of the same name and Labels Discfunction and Noid followed soon thereafter. Continue reading

Online streaming services have changed the way we listen to music. Websites like Mixcloud, Spotify, Soundcloud and Pandora have all brought new music to our attention, whether that was the goal or not. Musicians, DJs and artists now have a global platform, reaching a wider audience than most radio shows can.

Good Room has teamed up with Mixcloud and The New Stand to talk about what this means for music lovers in the future. Through their Mixcloud Curates series founder Nico Perez will be in conversation with Talking Heads frontman David Byrne, Next Big Sound Founder Alex White, Pitchfork founder Ryan Schreiber and Thump editor-in-chief Emilie Friedlander discussing “Technology, Humans, Curation and the Future of Music Discovery.” Continue reading

With love for the contrast between beauty and aggression, Kellam Matthews takes dreamy house tracks and dark acid jams and mashes them together to make some eerie results. After picking up DJing when he was 13, his early influence of Drum & Bass has translated into his current sets, playing slowed down breaks over house music. The Brooklyn-based DJ has been putting together the Friendzone! party and radio show since November with friend Maya, aka Octo Octa, with a simple concept, friends and music – “We talked about how we got into DJing and what excited us about it so we kind of have this approach where we envision ourselves as kids playing records in our rooms.” Continue reading

“I grew up in California. I grew up listening to and buying all kinds of music, much of it exposed to me by older artist friends. I got really into dance music about 10 years ago and moved to Berlin to dynamically immerse myself in the culture for a year before coming back to the States and moving to New York in 2011.

The mix was made in one take using two technics SL-1200s, my warhorse of a mixer, and a bunch of records, no tricks.” – Nathan Harrington
