Dinky is never one who to rest to her laurels. The Chilean-born, Berlin-based producer had never limited herself to one style – From her early releases on in the `90s Sonic Groove, Traum and Carpark to Sven Vath’s Cocoon imprint and her latest release ‘Casa’ on Crosstown Rebels, her records range from ambient, minimal house and techno to downcast new disco and electronic pop.

Dinky’s musical journey started as a child playing piano. When she moved to NYC in the mid-90s to join the Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance, that Dinky’s music career began to take off, as she immersed herself in the city’s vital underground scene of the day.

Since moving to Berlin in 2003 Dinky has gone on to become a regular fixture across the continental scene, playing regularly in the most iconic clubs like DC10, Fabric, Amnesia or Cocoon Club, whilst at home in Berlin she’s held the honor of a Panorama Bar residency since 2004.

After taking a break from 2014-16 because, babies, she’s on tour for the first single off her upcoming album ‘Casa’ on Crosstown Rebels. It’s Dinky’s first time back in the US in a number of years, bringing her infusions of acid, leftfield and electronica to Good Room while making her debut at the club.

What is your Holy Grail of records?

Hardwax is definitely where I like to go most but definitely my husband, Matthew Styles, is the one who knows all the gems. So he is my Holy Grail of information when it comes to new and old music.

Dead or alive, if you could pick anyone to dance to one of your sets who would it be?

As I used to be a dancer I’d love to see (Rudolf) Nureyev dancing live.

Has dance music changed for better or worse since you decided to enter the business?

I’d say it’s just different, not worse or better. Sound quality wise it might sound better due to newer technology but so many musicians like to sound vintage so its relative.

The business model changes so much and we need to adapt to it. When I started it was elitist, expensive and rare to be an electronic music artist. It was word of mouth or magazines. One needed to make an effort to be informed. Now with the Internet and cheaper technology electronic music very accessible and the competition is fierce. That’s a good thing but at the same time overwhelming and hard to keep up with so much information.

I try not to get stuck on the ” before it was better “mentality but look forward and embrace the changes .

What would be your last meal on earth and to what soundtrack?

I’m a huge Japanese food fan, so probably dinning in restaurant in Tokyo listening to Arthur Russell’s “World of Echo”.

Could you share five tracks wth us that you’ve been into lately…
