DJ Sprinkles is something of a true renegade in modern club culture. She tackles themes that are usually off limits in electronic music, eschewing conventional notions of ‘having the night of your life’ and instead confronting issues of gender, sexuality, race and class, often in lipstick and four-inch heels.

Nineteen albums and multifarious monikers into her 20-year career, she’s constructed a political discourse that’s hard to find anywhere else in dance music today. We’re bringing her rare spirit back to Good Room on September 17 at the French Kiss presents party. We caught up with the Comatonse label head ahead of her set, sharing her love and ideas on music. Vinyl-only DJ and visual artist SPRKLBB aka Andy Egelhoff has been an avid collector of dance records of a decade. After photographing underground nightlife in cities around the world, he moved back to NYC in 2014 and began throwing his own parties as SPRKLBB – a zany caricature of himself meant to challenge a perceived stoicism in underground dance music culture. He was quickly discovered by DJs Nita and Will Automagic of The Carry Nation, and spent the early half of 2016 as the resident DJ and programmer for New York’s Ostbahnhof parties. He currently manages the nightlife programming for The Gateway, a new venue in Bushwick, where he throws an alternative/queer techno monthly called Collapse Factory.

He’s put together an hour of bonkers dance music for the 64th Good Room Podcast ahead of his set in the Bad Room on September 10, joining The Carry Nation boys once again. Tickets $10 advanced here –bit.ly/2ccMLrf Continue reading

Heidi has worked hard over the past decade to make her mark on the new house and techno music generation. You only have to visit her worldwide brand of Jackathon parties and or listen to her BBC Radio 1 show to experience her passion for music and fiery nature. Heidi spends her life immersed in music. Never afraid to fight for what she wants, for Heidi it’s not about right place, right time. She has won through sheer determination and sharing the magic with those she loves at every step.

This year has been a busy year for Heidi, relaunching her Jackathon Jams label. After a short hiatus, the first release is a 3-track collaborative EP from DJ T. Vs Emanuel Satie featuring two new productions ‘Break Loose’ and ‘Feeling You’ featuring Joe le Groove, and a remix of ‘Break Loose’ by Kill Frenzy. Continue reading

Scottish producer Graeme Clark has been one-upping himself years. Making music as The Revenge, he has a gift for crafting forward-thinking and inspiring cuts which he has showed us 12 inch after 12 inch after 12 inch. Moving to New York in 2012 opened up a new world for Guy Car. Although he’d dabbled with DJing in his native France, the NYC house and techno scene opened up a new perspective on music. “The Dancefloor/DJ dialogue was on another level that to me felt healing and growing and that’s when it really stroke me as this incredibly precious and powerful thing. From there it’s really been me processing all of this and trying to understand what had happened those nights, but also the 30 plus years or so of music’s history that led to this moment and that I felt I needed to know more about,” he said. Kim Ann Foxman is a rare visionary who yearns to celebrate the golden era of authentic dance music whilst feeding from her fluid understanding of its imminent and intriguing future.

After stepping away from singing with New York’s neo-disco collective Hercules and Love Affair she returned to her fundamental passions: rocking clubs as a DJ and producing raw electronic music. Since then she started Firehouse recordings to represent New York, represent its flavour and be a part of the music history, putting out tracks that are super-dynamic, gorgeous and weird. Born and raised in West suburban Chicagoland, it was no wonder Shaun J. Wright he fell in love with house music. His love for dance music expanded throughout his high school years as he partook in the underground dance scene now globally known as Juke.

The once dancer/voguer in professional dance companies and the ballroom scene, found his feet in fashion in New York City. It was here he met Andrew Butler, founder of Hercules and the Love Affair, and began a whirlwind collaboration with the ensemble as a vocalist. Continue reading

Carry Nation was a woman who wanted to stop everyone partying and used to attack bars with a hatchet. The Carry Nation, on the other hand, is quite the opposite. Two long-time staples in the NYC gay underground house scene, DJs Nita and Will Automagic came together in 2012 to throw parties that keep you carrying till dawn.

They make some beats too. Over the years they’ve collaborated with the likes of Stereogamous, Shaun J Wright and Viva Ruiz, remixed or been remixed by the likes of Gavin Russom (The Crystal Ark), Serverino & Luke Howard (Horse Meat Disco) and Fatherhood and have released records on Batty Bass, Tribal and Get Up Recordings.
