JKriv and Aaron Dae the Brooklyn duo responsible for helping shape the modern NYC disco sound. Through their label Razor-N-Tape, they’ve put out 30 releases in the past four years, finding some of the best producers from here and across the globe.

Disco, house, techno, chill-out and leftfield don’t even begin to cover the range of genres Tiago Miranda plays. An accomplished crate-digger, the DJ and producer never plays two sets the same, with new records always filling up his bag. Some might call him eclectic but we call the Lisbon-based DJ a legend for always opening our ears to new tracks.
Growing up around good music, he started DJing at 17 after all his bandmates started doing it. At the time Portugal was just being turned onto the rave scene with small clubs playing house and techno. In 1998 the club of all clubs, Lux Frágil, opened and Tiago has been DJing there ever since. Slam Mode are soundscape therapists. Angel Rodriguez and Michael Cole have been spinning and collecting music since 1979, so one could only imagine how big their record collection is. They are influenced by everything from salsa, afro beat and Latin jazz to reggae, minimal, deep tech, drum ‘n’ bass, electronica and ambient soundscapes.
These influences give them a unique perspective on the house music that they produce and DJ. They like to explore deeper in the abyss of fusion and expressionism with their records, the chemical ingredients for spawning such imaginative range and spectrum. Hieroglyphic Being is an enigma in the house music world. Hailing from Chicago, he’s one of the last DJs left to have been influenced by legends of the original scene, like Ron Hardy at the Muzik Box and Larry Heard. He also takes inspiration from the free jazz and experimental noise visionaries of the past like Sun Ra, John Cage and StockHausen.
Combining the best of both worlds, Hieroglyphic Being has become an experimental sound artist. His musical works and creations are seeded and inspired from Afro-Futurists concepts, making him no regular house producer. Continue reading

Identical twin sister duo Jacquelyn & Kathryn Smith (aka Jacky Sommer & DatKat) have been spreading the good sound around NYC since the early 2000s. They started The Analog Soul Show on East Village Radio exploring the deeper, darker side of techno and house with guests like Function to Simbad, Roland Appel, Slam Mode, and Dj Qu.
The show finished in 2009 but the sisters remain tastemakers in the NYC underground scene as well as playing across Europe, exploring the full spectrum of electronic music, from minimal, acid and Detroit techno to electro, dub and D&B. Continue reading
