Hieroglyphic Being is an enigma in the house music world. Hailing from Chicago, he’s one of the last DJs left to have been influenced by legends of the original scene, like Ron Hardy at the Muzik Box and Larry Heard. He also takes inspiration from the free jazz and experimental noise visionaries of the past like Sun Ra, John Cage and StockHausen.

Combining the best of both worlds, Hieroglyphic Being has become an experimental sound artist. His musical works and creations are seeded and inspired from Afro-Futurists concepts, making him no regular house producer.

Since he started throwing the Liquid Sex parties in 1989, Hieroglyphic Being has been writing a new chapter Chicago’s rich musical history. He’s appeared on numerous top 100 DJ/producer lists around the world and runs his own label Mathematics. After 25 years in the game he continues to push the boundaries of house music with his intense live shows which have to be heard to be believed.

Good Room asked Hieroglyphic Being to pick out five of his all-time favorites to hear what inspires him ahead of his debut at the club this weekend. Of the tracks he said: “Favorite sonic picks for the release and tension of the harmonic structures and the cerebral dynamics of listening too them in order to escape with in”.
