House, techno and breaks is how Octo Octa describes her genre of music but her productions are so much more than that. The Brooklyn producer’s finely-tuned marriage of exquisite compositional flare, meticulously-sculpted sonics, and primal dance-floor functionality earned her a Red Bull Music Academy residency in Manhattan as well as covet gigs at Berlin’s Panorama Bar, Frankfurt’s Live At Robert Johnson, and Barcelona’s Sonar Festival.

Over the years her releases on Running Back, Argot and 100% Silk have been in the record bags of many DJs around the world. This week she returns to Good Room to push her unique sonic perspective and shimmering club-ready earworms through our soundsystem. She’s DJing at the Young People party with Jayson Green and Dennis McNany (Museum of Love) on July 29 – tickets available here. Continue reading

With love for the contrast between beauty and aggression, Kellam Matthews takes dreamy house tracks and dark acid jams and mashes them together to make some eerie results. After picking up DJing when he was 13, his early influence of Drum & Bass has translated into his current sets, playing slowed down breaks over house music. The Brooklyn-based DJ has been putting together the Friendzone! party and radio show since November with friend Maya, aka Octo Octa, with a simple concept, friends and music – “We talked about how we got into DJing and what excited us about it so we kind of have this approach where we envision ourselves as kids playing records in our rooms.” Continue reading

“I grew up in California. I grew up listening to and buying all kinds of music, much of it exposed to me by older artist friends. I got really into dance music about 10 years ago and moved to Berlin to dynamically immerse myself in the culture for a year before coming back to the States and moving to New York in 2011.

The mix was made in one take using two technics SL-1200s, my warhorse of a mixer, and a bunch of records, no tricks.” – Nathan Harrington

Jacques Renault and JDH met in a bar and 13 years later they’re still friends. When they met they were both DJing in bars around NYC but what they went on to do changed the scene in NYC. Jacques Renault went on to form Let’s Play House Records with friend Nik Mercer and has put out countless dancefloor classics. JDH started the FIXED parties with Dave P and were the first promoters to bring acts like Simian Mobile Disco, Tensnake and Aeroplane to NYC. They were named Time Out’s No.1 party in NYC this year so you know they’re lots of fun.

The guys are getting back together on July 22 for a Let’s Play House x FIXED take over (It’s free! You can RSVP here) so we asked the boys to share a little bit of history ahead of the party. Continue reading

Disco, house, techno, chill-out and leftfield don’t even begin to cover the range of genres Tiago Miranda plays. An accomplished crate-digger, the DJ and producer never plays two sets the same, with new records always filling up his bag. Some might call him eclectic but we call him a legend for always opening our ears to new sounds.

Hailing from Lisbon where he is a weekly resident at Club Lux, Tiago has a laid back intensity that is reflected in the expansive and inquisitive nature of his sets. Raised on good music in his home, turned on to drumming by his older brother, he came to DJ’ing via live music. He has been at it for close to twenty years, and in the last decade added production work to his resume with releases on DFA Records, Public Possession and his own label Interzona13. Experimenting with sound, image and movement since he was a kid, it’s no wonder Gavin Russom became a synth wizard.
