Don’t think of @khand as just another Detroit-based producer, or DJ. Think of her instead as one of the city’s best, as bold as that thought may seem. She has devoted more than two decades to working crowds into techno dance frenzy, reading crowds and seducing them, one track after another, until she has it at her mercy. Her latest releases are some of hottest music coming out of Detroit on Acacia Recordings and Nina Kraviz’s Label трип (English: Trip).

Playing at Good Room for the first time on October 21, K-HAND has put together a mix that will make you yearn for the dancefloor featuring rhythmic house and upbeat vocal tracks with a touch of that soul sound that Detroit is so well known for. Grab your tickets for the party here – bit.ly/2cryURk

Vinyl-only DJ and visual artist SPRKLBB aka Andy Egelhoff has been an avid collector of dance records of a decade. After photographing underground nightlife in cities around the world, he moved back to NYC in 2014 and began throwing his own parties as SPRKLBB – a zany caricature of himself meant to challenge a perceived stoicism in underground dance music culture. He was quickly discovered by DJs Nita and Will Automagic of The Carry Nation, and spent the early half of 2016 as the resident DJ and programmer for New York’s Ostbahnhof parties. He currently manages the nightlife programming for The Gateway, a new venue in Bushwick, where he throws an alternative/queer techno monthly called Collapse Factory.

He’s put together an hour of bonkers dance music for the 64th Good Room Podcast ahead of his set in the Bad Room on September 10, joining The Carry Nation boys once again. Tickets $10 advanced here –bit.ly/2ccMLrf Continue reading

Moving to New York in 2012 opened up a new world for Guy Car. Although he’d dabbled with DJing in his native France, the NYC house and techno scene opened up a new perspective on music. “The Dancefloor/DJ dialogue was on another level that to me felt healing and growing and that’s when it really stroke me as this incredibly precious and powerful thing. From there it’s really been me processing all of this and trying to understand what had happened those nights, but also the 30 plus years or so of music’s history that led to this moment and that I felt I needed to know more about,” he said. Carry Nation was a woman who wanted to stop everyone partying and used to attack bars with a hatchet. The Carry Nation, on the other hand, is quite the opposite. Two long-time staples in the NYC gay underground house scene, DJs Nita and Will Automagic came together in 2012 to throw parties that keep you carrying till dawn.

They make some beats too. Over the years they’ve collaborated with the likes of Stereogamous, Shaun J Wright and Viva Ruiz, remixed or been remixed by the likes of Gavin Russom (The Crystal Ark), Serverino & Luke Howard (Horse Meat Disco) and Fatherhood and have released records on Batty Bass, Tribal and Get Up Recordings. His ‘Chimeras in the Matrix’ EP is the first release for Samo Records. The A side (“Omega Block”) is remixed by British producer Antoni Maiovvi, who co-runs the horror disco label Giallo Disco Records; the B side (“Chimeras in the Matrix”) remix comes from another British producer, Tronik Youth, who helms the prolific Nein Records.

Brooklyn based DJs and producers John Barera & Will Martin are known for their sculptural, storytelling House with a subtle Detroit Techno influence. Their debut album on Dolly,“Graceless” followed up on the success of their track “Reality”, which found its way into the hands of Berlin’s Steffi, and acted as a central gear in her Panorama 05 Mix. “Graceless” was well received and the two begun to perform from time to time at major clubs and festivals around North America and Europe. A string of EPs on labels like Argot and Supply followed, further cementing their reputation. Continue reading
