Kitsuné is about the future. Since their inception in 2002, the French record label has been showcasing the scene of tomorrow through their legendary Kitsuné Maison compilation series which shone a light on young and talented underground artists. It’s hard to find an electronic artist who hasn’t been featured in the series. After building up their name, they started releasing LPs for artists like Hot Chip, Digitalism and Two Door Cinema Club. Two legends of the underground dance scene come together this Saturday night with Amsterdam’s Rush Hour Records founder Antal playing alongside the man responsible for San Francisco’s Sunset Sound System and No Way back parties, Solar.
Antal is a hugely versatile DJ that can wave together house and techno or Afro and disco just as ably. He gained notority through his faultless record label and cherished store. As well as releasing the most exciting new music, the label is famed for its on-point re-issues of forgotten old classics whilst the shop stocks records bought on crate digging trips around the world. Many people would be strangers in life if it wasn’t for music. This rings true for Remain and Max Pask. A few years back Remain sent some tracks to Max Pask’s record label, Throne of Blood, and the rest is history. The music that Remain sent ended up being his EP ‘Mlle Caro’, which Max ended up remixing on his label. and then Frenchmen ended up making a couple EP’s together on both Throne of Blood and Remain’s label Meant Recordings.
The pair don’t often get to play together, with Remain based in Paris and Max in New York, but we’re fortunate enough to have both the music makers in Brooklyn at the same time for the FIXED party on March 11. The pair will be taking over the Bad Room for a night of leftfield house, oddball techno and electronic jams. We got the guys to interview each other ahead of the party and we might be lucky enough to get some new music as a result. Continue reading

For more than 20 years Fred Peterkin has been releasing some of the gentlest soul infiltrated four-to-the-floor house creations you can get. Whether it’s under Fred P or his alias Black Jazz Constortium, he listens to his heart and soul, then to the susurrus of the music market.
He came up through the NYC house scene in the 90s, being inspired by the likes of Junior Vasquez, Frankie Knuckles and DJ Disciple. The sites and sounds of the music world inspired him to make his own music and eventually start his own label, Soul People Music. Continue reading

Paul Raffaele and Barbie Bertisch are two of the hardest working DJs in New York. Besides playing regular gigs across Brooklyn, the pair also have two radio shows (on The Lot Radio and klangbox.fm), run the Most Excellent Unlimited record label and put out the Love Injection fanzine every month. They also host Classic Album Sundays at Good Room with Ron Like Hell. On top of this, they also work 9 to 5.
But they do it for the love and it’s rare to see a pair as passionate as these two. They’re playing at the FIXED party on March 5 so we asked these partners in crime to interview each other ahead of their set. Continue reading

Hugo Capablanca and Willie Burns have known each other for about 10 years. Hugo lives in Berlin while Willie holds down the fort in New York. The both run their own record labels, Discos Capablanca and W.T Records respectively. They both DJ/produce/collect records and have excellent taste in music.
While they have similarities and differences, one question remains… who has better interviewing skills? We asked the guys to interview each other ahead of their set in the Bad Room on March 3 and hilarity ensued. We’ll let you decide. Continue reading
