Carry Nation was a woman who wanted to stop everyone partying and used to attack bars with a hatchet. The Carry Nation, on the other hand, is quite the opposite. DJs Nita and Will Automagic throw parties that keep you carrying till dawn. Oh, and they make some beats too.

Influenced by their NYC surrounds and the global DJ community, the boys have been throwing down since 2012 with guests like Hercules and the Love Affair, Juliana Huxtable and Eli Escobar. They’re starting a monthly residency at Good Room on April 9 (Tickets available here) with guests like Lauren Flax, Dandylion, Bearcat and Mister Wallace. Good Room caught up with the guys to find out just what The Carry Nation is all about. Continue reading

From Holland to Tennessee to NYC, Shy Eyez has been highly influenced by the many DJs she’s been able to see perform. A music lover from an early age, her sets now lean heavily towards techno, influenced largely by the Bristol/U.K. bass music scene. In 2014 she was given a weekly Monday happy hour gig at Bossa Nova Civic Club, now every 2nd and 4th Monday of the month. She also regularly shares the decks with Tropical Goth and has played gigs for Discwoman and Confused House.

A regular at Good Room, Shy Eyez has put together the 40th Good Room Podcast, with highlights including Bruce’s new EP on Hessle Audio, forthcoming releases from Rhythmic Theory and Webstarr, and a personal favorite Bookworms track.

If you’ve been to any club night in NYC there’s a good chance you’ve seen Dino Calvao dancing right up the front. He’s a regular fixture in the scene since 1976 and you can spot him at Good Room nearly every weekend. He’s been DJing since he was 18 and loves any kind of music that will make him dance.

It’s Dino’s birthday this Thursday so he’s jumping on the decks before Joakim and Paul Raffaele for a special birthday set (It’s a free party. You can RSVP here). We asked Dino to share some of his favorite NYC clubbing experiences after 40 years on the dancefloor. Needless to say, if you can name it, he was there. Continue reading

Legend is a word that gets thrown around a lot but when it comes to Justin Strauss, there isn’t a word to better describe him. Justin was just 17 when his glam rock band Milk ‘N’ Cookies got signed to Island Records in the 1970s. This lead to him spinning of some of New York’s most fabled clubs, starting at the Mudd Club and spinning his way through The Ritz, Limelight, Area and Tunnel.

Over the years he’s also built up a reputation for his production skills, remixing and producing more than 200 records, working with artists like Depeche Mode, Tina Turner, B-52s, Luther Vandross, Malcolm McClaren and Goldfrapp. In 2016, he’s still doing his thing in the city and abroad and is one half of synth-focused duo a/jus/ted, alongside Teddy Stuart, as well as part of Whatever/Whatever with Bryan Mette. Born and raised in the mecca of house music, it was only a matter of time before Rissa Garcia got behind the decks. Growing up with a love of music, in 2000 she discovered a club called Vinyl and Danny Tenaglia. She fell in love with the atmosphere while falling deeper in love with the music and started DJing in 2004.

She currently runs her own imprint, NightChild Records, and has released over sixty EP’s from producers across the globe. With some of her recent releases receiving support from Alexander Robotnik, Louie Vega, X-Press 2, Jus-Ed and more, she strives to offer a consistent quality synonymous with those who have an influence on her.

A regular fixture in the NYC scene, Rissa has put together a journey through house music for the 39th Good Room Podcast, traversing through vocal, deep and sparkling house tracks.

Nathan Gregory Wilkins is an enigma. He’s been in the music game for two decades, making and playing music that is something else. From listening to his fortnightly radio show on NTS, with Ivan Smagghe, you can hear there’s a whole lot of stuff going on inside his head. He brings together a wide range of influences, from disco and new wave to hip hop and industrial, in an offbeat way that will keep your feet moving for hours.

Nathan is the founder of the revered History Clock label. Over the years he has held numerous residencies, including those at Boombox, Electric Stew, and David Lynch’s Paris club Silencio, and he recently started a new monthly with Joe Spurgeon (The Horrors).
