Since Achim Brandenburg heartily grabbed the microphone under his Prosumer moniker in 2005 he showed that lasciviousness, a fever for Chicago’s Jack flavour and consciousness of tradition aren’t necessarily bound to a time and a place. Vision, passion and knowledge make Prosumer a guardian of house music history and one of the formative artists, influential DJs and important producers of our days.
With releases for Frankfurt’s then undisputed label Playhouse and later Running Back and Potion, Prosumer connects the tracks and songs of this music’s golden age with the worthwhile pieces and developments of today. Accordingly to that special feeling which is so hard to couch, he gets engaged in it from tip to toe – and so does his audience. Proved by his mission as one of the residents in Berlin’s influential club institution, on his official mix CD for that place that describes his spectrum of sound perfectly and by this certain magic that travels with and in him everywhere.
STEFFI – LIVE (OstGut Ton, Panorama Bar)
Dutch-born Steffi is a key figure in the realms of contemporary electronic music. A resident at Panorama Bar, and a respected producer and label owner, her work embraces underground electronic culture in its many forms.
With the experience that comes with promoting underground parties for over a decade, and running two record labels – Klakson, and her quickly expanding Dolly imprint – Steffi has developed a natural and professional balance between DJing and making records. Her productions continue to mature and shine, exploring many different aspects of House and Techno, with a distinctive clarity and classic approach.
FORT ROMEAU (Ghostly International/Cin Cin)
One of the most intriguing and welcome developments in the world of music over the past few years has been the renaissance of house music. A new generation of producers are incorporating the signature tropes of classic Chicago house into a post-millennial reinvention of the genre, creating a wealth of new takes on one of the most influential sounds in the history of electronic music. Few producers, however, have done so quite so deftly as London-based producer Mike Greene, aka Fort Romeau. He makes music for the discotheque has releases on Ghostly/Spectral, Running Back, Live At Robert Johnson.
TIM SWEENEY (Beats in Space)
Every Tuesday night at 10:30pm, anybody within radius of WNYU’s transmitter can tune into 89.1 FM for this dance music show hosted by the DJ Tim Sweeney. Tim has had the show since he was a college student—so 16 years now. And while he’d bristle at the idea of himself being a “renowned DJ” (he is) or even an “in-demand DJ” (ditto), if you love dance music, few things are better than Tim’s show. Then there’s Beats In Space Records. Between Tim traveling the world and the world traveling to Tim, he finds great tunes that would otherwise slip by the rest of us, releasing music by Secret Circuit, Lauer, Tornado Wallace, Tom Noble and more.
ERIC DUNCAN (Rub-n-Tug/Keep it Cheap)
Eric Duncan aka Dr Dunks is one half of legendary DJ duo Rub-n-Tug & also half of DFA’s Still Going. No matter the name though, the game remains unchanged: peak time party provider. Over the past couple years Eric has been working with Dean Meredith (Chicken Lips) releasing on Golf Channel Records under the name ‘The Rhythm Odyssey & Dr. Dunks’. On his own or as part of one of the various partnerships, Eric has remixed artists like Roxy Music to Zero 7, LCD Soundsystem, Cold Play, Todd Terje, Grace Jones, Chic Chic Chic and The Beastie Boys, just to name a few.
