Good Talk with Red Axes

Dance music infused with spiky guitars and industrial beats, our kind of music. Born out of the ashes of a rock band, Red Axes has become one of the most uncompromising and consistently diverse DJs-Producers. Their debut LP,’Ballad of the Ice’ shows off their wide range and eclectic style, from the Portuguese new-wave deliciousness of ‘Papa Sooma’, to the western-like clubby psychedelia of ‘The Watkins’, to their brooding dark cover of Bauhaus’ ‘Bela Lugosi’s Dead’.

Since then they’ve released several records on labels like John Talabot’s Hivern Discs, Correspondent and Multi Culti. Dori Sadovnik and Niv Arzi have also started their own Tel Aviv-based label Garzen Records (which means “Axe” in Hebrew). The first EP, featuring an abundance of local talents and ranging from punk to disco and beyond, will soon be released.

After killing it in March at the Fixed party, Red Axes are headed back to Good Room this week, playing live. We asked the guys to share some of their musical secrets ahead of the party with François K, Mike Simonetti, Tiago and Måns (tickets available here).

Has the dance music industry changed for better or worse since you started playing/making music?

Some things are definitely better for me, mostly how easy and fast it is to find great records, old and new.

What would be your last meal on earth and to which sound track?

“‘Schnitzel Zion” legendary pita with Schnitzel located near the Bach in Tel Aviv. The soundtrack will be silence at this meal.
