If you’ve been to any club night in NYC there’s a good chance you’ve seen Dino Calvao dancing right up the front. He’s a regular fixture in the scene since 1976 and you can spot him at Good Room nearly every weekend. He’s been DJing since he was 18 and loves any kind of music that will make him dance.

It’s Dino’s birthday this Thursday so he’s jumping on the decks before Joakim and Paul Raffaele for a special birthday set (It’s a free party. You can RSVP here). We asked Dino to share some of his favorite NYC clubbing experiences after 40 years on the dancefloor. Needless to say, if you can name it, he was there. Continue reading

Born and raised in the mecca of house music, it was only a matter of time before Rissa Garcia got behind the decks. Growing up with a love of music, in 2000 she discovered a club called Vinyl and Danny Tenaglia. She fell in love with the atmosphere while falling deeper in love with the music and started DJing in 2004.

She currently runs her own imprint, NightChild Records, and has released over sixty EP’s from producers across the globe. With some of her recent releases receiving support from Alexander Robotnik, Louie Vega, X-Press 2, Jus-Ed and more, she strives to offer a consistent quality synonymous with those who have an influence on her.

A regular fixture in the NYC scene, Rissa has put together a journey through house music for the 39th Good Room Podcast, traversing through vocal, deep and sparkling house tracks.

A native New Yorker, Jake Reif spent some musically formative years in the Midwest, drawing a massive influence from the cultures of Chicago and Detroit. Fueled by the underground energy of warehouse and loft parties of the era, he began his DJ career in the early 1990’s. When he returned to NYC he worked with legendary electronic music purveyors at Sonic Groove Records and Syntax Music Distribution.

Over the years he’s put out releases on Rong Music as Savage Hymn (with Mystic Bill) and Path Records as Upsetting Keys (with Reade Truth) as well as recent remixes on Snuff Trax. This year he joins the L.I.E.S family with a record to be released in the coming months.

Jake has put together a mix of trippy new wave and psychedelic techno for the 38th Good Room Podcast ahead of his set at the the Capriccio x Nation party on March 25 with Martin Rev (of Suicide), Traxx, Mick Wills and Black Meteoric Star. Tickets available here.

Many people would be strangers in life if it wasn’t for music. This rings true for Remain and Max Pask. A few years back Remain sent some tracks to Max Pask’s record label, Throne of Blood, and the rest is history. The music that Remain sent ended up being his EP ‘Mlle Caro’, which Max ended up remixing on his label. and then Frenchmen ended up making a couple EP’s together on both Throne of Blood and Remain’s label Meant Recordings.

The pair don’t often get to play together, with Remain based in Paris and Max in New York, but we’re fortunate enough to have both the music makers in Brooklyn at the same time for the FIXED party on March 11. The pair will be taking over the Bad Room for a night of leftfield house, oddball techno and electronic jams. We got the guys to interview each other ahead of the party and we might be lucky enough to get some new music as a result. Continue reading

Paul Raffaele and Barbie Bertisch are two of the hardest working DJs in New York. Besides playing regular gigs across Brooklyn, the pair also have two radio shows (on The Lot Radio and klangbox.fm), run the Most Excellent Unlimited record label and put out the Love Injection fanzine every month. They also host Classic Album Sundays at Good Room with Ron Like Hell. On top of this, they also work 9 to 5.

But they do it for the love and it’s rare to see a pair as passionate as these two. They’re playing at the FIXED party on March 5 so we asked these partners in crime to interview each other ahead of their set. Continue reading

Hugo Capablanca and Willie Burns have known each other for about 10 years. Hugo lives in Berlin while Willie holds down the fort in New York. The both run their own record labels, Discos Capablanca and W.T Records respectively. They both DJ/produce/collect records and have excellent taste in music.

While they have similarities and differences, one question remains… who has better interviewing skills? We asked the guys to interview each other ahead of their set in the Bad Room on March 3 and hilarity ensued. We’ll let you decide. Continue reading

Willie Burns joins the Good Room family as a resident and shares a new mix of rare house, oddball techno and a couple of classics for the 10th Good Room Podcast. Willie has been around for years, currently releasing on taste making labels such as The Trilogy Tapes, L.I.E.S. and Creme Organization. On top of producing records he stays busy with a wildly varied weekly radio show (WTBS), managing the infamous record digging spot known as The Thing in Brooklyn and also running W.T. Records. Barbie Bertisch brings us a mix of cosmic jams and weird disco vibes in the 9th Good Room Podcast. Buenos Aires born and raised, living in Brooklyn for over 4 years, Barbie plays records in NYC with the full intention to make you move.

Tropical Goth’s Chris Video delivers the 8th Good Room podcast ahead of the Bad Room party on October 17. Chris has been throwing parties across the US since the early 2000s, but since settling in NYC three years ago he’s been DJing around Brooklyn’s underground techno parties, producing original live electronic music as SHREDDER and handles bookings for Bossa Nova Civic Club. JDH and Dave P have been pushing electronic music in Brooklyn for the past decade through their party FIXED. The pair have hosted some of the best international acts from Tensanke and John Talabot to Simian Moble Disco and Lindstrom. They’re also well established DJs in their own right and always know how to get the crowd moving. For the 7th Good Room Podcast they share with us some of their favorite tracks, taking us on a journey from experimental electronic music to deeper house and techno tracks. Continue reading
